Wii Features That We Loved The Most and Would Like to See on Other Consoles

Table of Contents

The Wii was released in the US on November 19, 2006, for $249 and is the smallest of the 7th generation consoles. Its dimensions are 44 mm wide, 157 mm high, and 215.4 mm long. To get a rough idea of its size, just put three DVD cases on top of each other. The console can be placed either vertically (it should be fixed in a special stand) or horizontally. The fan cooling the console is located on the right (if the console is in a horizontal position), or below (if the console is in a vertical position) – there is a separate hole in the stand for it.

It was popular at the time as it had numerous fantastic games which are now considered to be legendary. Among them are:

       Super Mario Galaxy 2;

       The Legend Of Zelda – Twilight Princess;

       Super Mario Bros 3;

       Call Of Duty – Modern Warfare 3;

       Harvest Moon – Animal Parade;

       The Sims 2 – Pets, and many others.

You can download Wii games from the list and many others and remember how great they are. And in this article, let’s remember why this console was so popular and what is special about it.

Wii Features That We Loved The Most and Would Like to See on Other Consoles

Wii Controllers

Perhaps, not all of the consoles have had so many options as Wii. It allowed us to enjoy the diverse gaming process and make it even more fun. Many players wanted to get something new for their Wiis to change the perception of already known games.

1.   Classic Controller Wii

The controller has two analog joysticks, a digital D-pud, seven front numeric buttons, two side numeric buttons, and two analog shoulder buttons.

2.   Classic Controller Pro Wii

Same as the original Classic Controller, except for the L and R buttons. They were made less sliding.

3.   Wii Remote

The console is unique in its controller – Wii Remote, which can determine its movement and orientation in three-dimensional space. In addition, the controller has a built-in speaker and vibration mechanism, which provides additional feedback. The controller is powered by two AA batteries.

While in standby mode (orange light on the Power button), the console consumes a minimum of energy, but, at the same time, can receive updates and messages over the Internet by connecting to WiiConnect24 (stopped on June 28, 2013), a service created by Nintendo to distribute updates, communication among the owners of the console (letters, photos) and the ability to play online. The console’s disk drive turns blue every time a new message arrives, a game disc is inserted, or the console is downloading updates.

The Wii Sensor Bar is an infrared light source that is received by the Wii Remote. It is installed above or below the monitor/TV screen. The controller itself can be combined with many Wii-specific accessories (handlebars, pistols, rackets, cues, fishing rods) to make the game more interesting. The connection to the game console is wireless, via the BlueTooth protocol. Connection to a computer is possible.

4.   Nunchuk

The Nunchuk is a remote control accessory for the Wii console that provides additional control for compatible games. By connecting the Nunchuk to the Wii Remote with a short cable, you take advantage of additional buttons, an analog stick, and additional motion-sensitive controls. With the Wii Remote in one hand and the Nunchuk in the other, you take control to the next level. For example, in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, the Wii remote is the sword and the Nunchuk is the shield. One Nunchuk is included with each Wii console. Additional Nunchuk can be purchased at stores.

5.   Wii MotionPlus

The Wii MotionPlus Accessory can be connected to the Wii Remote for added precision in games that have been specially designed for this.

6.   Wii Balance Board

Active gaming, the first of which was Wii Sports, uses your entire body thanks to the Wii Balance Board included with Wii Fit Plus. This device is used for a wide variety of fun and dynamic activities, including aerobics, yoga, stretching, and outdoor games.

7.   Wii Wheel

Mario Kart Wii comes with a Wii Wheel for the Wii Remote. Wii Wheel provides new control options.

So, it is evident that the variety of gaming options and possibilities provided by Wii is huge. It shifted the whole gaming process to a new level and it might be something that modern consoles lack. The controllers now are much more advanced but it is sometimes also extremely fun to experience new possibilities by using additional gear.
